Wow, we’re already 3 months into 2024! I can’t believe how time flies.
This year, I have plans–big plans to work towards my goal of achieving financial independence. I’ve been hard at work chipping away at many of my other side projects and I’m waiting patiently for the Google algorithm to do its work. Here’s what I have:
Financial Updates in 2024 and Side Hustle Projects
I don’t think I’ve ever introduced this project on this blog. The Honey Butter Tech is an affiliate marketing project that I’ve been working on for the past three months.
What is the Honey Butter Tech? It’s the place to be if you’re looking for ideas and inspiration on how to create aesthetically pleasing desk setups.
Since January, I have one goal: To publish one blog post per week until I reach 10 blog posts total on the website, and then continue to publish one every week.
Safe to say, I achieved this goal a few weeks ago, but now the strategy gets a bit more complicated. Now that I have 10 blog posts, I’ve started implementing Pinterest marketing strategy to direct traffic to my blog.
Here’s the first three day results from Pinterest. (Click on the image to enlarge it). Views were pretty low at 16 impressions, and 1 monthly view on the Pinterest Board.
And here are my results for the first seven-day of pushing a pin out each day on the blog. Views are growing (83 impressions), albeit very slow but I’m not complaining.
And color me surprise when I checked this morning and the views went to 32 on the Pinterest Board. Not bad for a week’s worth of work!
And then here are the top performing posts with the number one post being the first pin I added to Pinterest.
I’m just so freaking excited! I’ve heard Pinterest can be a really good source of traffic but never really implemented this much before. So, I’m really happy with the results. It’s not a lot, but it’s so exciting!
In terms of actual traffic to the website, it’s been pretty slow with very small traffic. Not a lot of views and TBH I don’t really know how to read the stats. I’m pretty sure 90% of this traffic is from me logging in everyday to do my blogging.
But I don’t believe my hard work, persistence, and traffic won’t make my blog blow up!
12-week Goals for my Honey Butter Tech Affiliate Marketing Project
- Write a total of 20 blog posts on the website
- Achieve 1K monthly views on Pinterest by June 19
- Achieve 1K monthly visitors on the website by June 19
How I Stick to a Consistent Writing Schedule
Mind you, it was NOT easy getting into the routine of working on my blog daily. At the start of the new year, I just felt this urge to really get going because I’m sick and tired of the corporate rat race.
Did I tell you I’m currently contractor with Boston Scientific? Anyways, my fate is tied to the end of my contracting job LMAO and I do not plan to be a contractor forever. For some reason I just have a really good feeling this year.
Anyways, before I digress, let’s go back to the routine conversation above. What really helped me a lot the first two months was signing up for some virtual accountability groups through Shut Up and Write and Meet Up.
Every evening I would do one hour writing sessions with these groups. At first I could only do 2-3 sessions bc building a habit is hard, you know?
Then that became 3-4, then five days in a row. Then I started going to less and less of the writing sessions.
And I’m super stoked to say that it’s been 3-months and I’ve been writing everyday (I take the weekends off) for a whole month! See my tracker!
Next, let’s hop to other projects I’m working on.
Cozy x Farming Game Newsletter on Twitter
Another project I’ve been working on is to build a following for The Turnip Patch, which is a platform where I share upcoming cozy and farming games on Twitter (or X, but I don’t care I’m just going to keep using X).
This one I’ve been planning for a few weeks, but haven’t really done anything until this week.
I created this account back in March 2022 (see date above) but stopped because I got lazy. At that time, I had a total of 4 followers!
This week, I decided to pick it back up. I’ve always wanted to gain a following on social media and write a newsletter (eventually my goal is to do this).
So each day, I’ve been retweeting games 3x and guess what?! I’ve already gained two followers for a total of 6.
Not bad for four days of work, right?!
Like I mentioned above, I’ve just been getting a really good feeling that things are going to turn around this year and I think that’s because I’ve been doing such a good job publishing my work consistently–and taking things slow one at a time.
Plus, now that I’ve gotten this daily writing routine down (writing for my blog that is), I’m slowly trying to introduce other habits.
Like tweeting 3x daily on Twitter (as you can see on the calendar above, I’ve only started this the third week of March (which is this week)). And I’ve been going on daily walks (although I’ve been slacking in this area a bit, hah!).
12-week Goals for the Turnip Patch:
- Achieve 500 followers by June 17
- Post 84x by June 17
- Gan 25 newsletter subscribers by June 17
Okay, now onto the next projects.
InMyTwenties and YouTube on Personal Finance/Investing/Personal Dev Books
Okay, the other main project that’s going to help me attain my goal of achieving financial dependence is this blog!
Yes, while The Honey Butter Tech is one of my main focus (my passion project) I’m banking on this blog to make me the bulk of my money from.
I’ve had this blog since 2021, wrote over 49+ blog posts, but took a long ass hiatus. Now, I’m back stronger than ever.
I’ve been thinking about how to make this blog bigger than it is and actually bring traffic to it and here’s what I’ve got planned.
I’m revamping the blog (no major web design or anything since that’ll just distract me from my real goal, which should be content creation).
I’m pivoting to a strategy that I’m passionate about.
So, I’m 26 years old now. I used to be really big on budgeting and making money, but since I’ve taken a hiatus, it’s very hard for me to get back into that mindset again–but this year’s the year to get my finance back in order.
The part that I’ve been stuck on the longest is how to invest. I did start (I have an IRA) but it’s just been sitting there, and this year my goal is to improve my financial education.
So, what I’ve been doing is educating myself through books. Okay, so here’s where I’m going to implement my blog x YouTube strategy. The idea is that I read one personal finance/investing/personal dev book per week and then discuss that book on my YouTube channel (which I will create). The stuff I’m going to discuss are key takeaways from the book and actual things I’m going to apply to my own financial journey to achieve financial freedom.
Anyways, I hope you join me on this journey when I launch it next week!
I’ve read Austin Kleon’s Show Your Work book and I have some really good golden nuggets I’m excited to share. I’m also halfway through Tom Ferris’ Four Hour Work Week, and there’s even more amazing nuggets in there that I can’t wait to discuss on the channel.
On this blog, I will no longer do personal finance blog posts about how to save money or what not. Instead, each week I will be sharing my personal annotations from these book that I know you will actually get a lot out of.
Saving money is great, learning how to control your money is great, but at one point if you really want to achieve financial freedom, investing is the way to go.
And I need to overcome that boat–educate myself essentially.
12-week Goals for the Turnip Patch:
- Gain 1000 followers by June 13
- Achieve 4,000 watch time by June 13
- Produce 12 videos on YouTube through June 13
Okay, last but not least here are some other smaller scale projects I’m working on.
Creative Projects: Selling Digital Products on Etsy and Selling Website Templates for Authors
You’re probably thinking I’m crazy for doing so many projects and you’re probably right! But again, I’m getting a good feeling this year.
Mostly because I know where my priorities are and how to control myself so I don’t burn out.
At its core, this blog/YouTube channel and the affiliate marketing blog (The Honey Butter Tech) are my main priorities. Everything else is not–everything else is more like passion projects.
Anyways, not to digress.
I’ve been wanting to do stickers for the longest time, but I recently got into bookmark making. I bought a Cannon EcoTank to print some bookmarks and they turned out great. For now, my goal is to vendor at an art event at least once per month selling my physical bookmarks, and then sell the digital version as digital products on Etsy.
Again, not sure how this will look like but it’s not a high priority project so I’m going at my own pace here.
The other project is to sell website templates for authors (self-published, indie authors etc.). I noticed that there are some authors I really like have like wonky looking websites. And many authors would prefer to work on their book then their website.
So I’ve come up with a plan to sell professional website templates via Carrd (this is an affiliate link btw. I love this platform so please note that if you click on this and buy one of the plans, I do make a commission), a platform that creates very easy landing pages or like 3-5 page websites) that will fit the lifestyle of an author.
For this one, I am in the midst of creating a template and landing page. Anyways, I want to test out the waters first before I really commit. I plan to cold email authors who look like they could use a template and go from there.
Check back next month for another monthly update on how things are going.
Anyways, ciao! That is all I have to update this month. Thanks for chatting!
At this moment, here’s how much money I’ve made through all my ventures: EXACTLY $0!!!
